As a friend of the author I was lucky enough to be both an example used in this e-commerce book and to receive an advance copy. It’s no surprise that I closely identify with the target market for this information. My favorite line of the entire book comes during the introduction when the author explains “The problem with most of the advice out there is that it assumes you’re looking to become the next great retail force and ignores the fact that many sellers are simply selling items on the side or as a small part of a larger business.” This is very true. After a brief look at each of the Big 3 mentioned in the title we get a look at some alternatives including eCrater, Vendio, Ecwid, and open source solutions. Hillary describes each of the solutions and offers bullet-point lists of the Advantages and Disadvantages of each. It’s nice to see this advice coming from someone I personally know as a real world seller who, like myself, specializes in vintage collectible items. If you’re looking to either break into the selling ranks or expand beyond the fee-driven platforms of Amazon, eBay and Etsy, I can’t think of a better place to go for a head start.
